“My friend, thy husband, honest, honest Iago” That her husband has manipulated so many people, and perplexed Othello’s jealousy to the extreme resulting in the tragedy of ‘Othello’ Here Emilia, realises Iago’s part in the plan. The truth sadly wasn’t picked upon by Othello meaning she was unnecessarily murdered. The dying words of Desdemona speak still of her loyalty to her husband. This shocking realisation of what Othello is saying makes Desdemona deny it straight away, in truth, yet Othello wouldn’t believe her. Here Shakespeare is reiterating the evidence that Othello took to mean she was most defiantly committing adultery. “That handkerchief which I so loved and gave thee, Thou’st gav’st to Cassio” This said by Othello connotes that like a rose once Desdemona’s life has been taken away there is no way to rebirth her life. “When I have plucked thy rose, I cannot give it vital growth agaim ” Saying that she shall be murdered so no more men are hurt by her is referring to the hurt caused to him Spoken by Othello he is hear explaining the reason why he is killing his truly innocent wife Desdemona. Lodovico plans to return to Venice, begging Cassio to make Iago suffer before he dies. Dying, he drags himself to the bed to kiss Desdemona one last time as he dies. Lodovico informs Othello that he must come with them to Venice, but Othello begs him to wait a moment he explains what he has done in the state’s service, and thinking of one last example, he stabs himself. The story is unraveled, but Iago refuses to give any explanation for what he has done.

Lodovico enters with the injured Cassio and the captured Iago. He finds a spare sword in the room and arms himself with it, but does nothing as the extent of what he has done crushes him. The others chase after him, leaving Othello and Emilia with Desdemona’s body.

Iago denies it, but Othello sees the truth and rushes at him Iago stabs Emilia and runs out. He orders her to be quiet and go home, but she refuses, and when Othello brings out the proof of the handkerchief, she tells him that it was she who stole the handkerchief and gave it to Iago. Montano, Gratiano and Iago enter, and Emilia begs her husband to deny what Othello has said, but he cannot. Despite Othello’s threats, she opens the door and yells out for help. He tells Emilia why, and she is horrified and does not want to believe him when he says that Iago was the one who accused Desdemona. Othello calls her a liar and tells Emilia that he killed her. Desdemona insists that nobody did anything to her and dies. At that moment Desdemona calls out, and Emilia runs to her and tries to unsuccessfully revive her.

In the end he lets her in, and she blurts out her news. Thinking that she has come to tell him of Cassio’s death, he is uncertain what to do, reluctant to let her in lest she try to speak to Desdemona. Emilia knocks at the door, calling for Othello. She begs for mercy, denying all of his accusations, but he refuses to listen and smothers her. He orders her to pray, informing her that she is about to die.
